Jin Shin Do® Neck and Shoulder Release workshop a success

The Jin Shin Do® neck release workshop held on Monday, September 20, 2010 turned out to be a wonderful learning experience for all!  The space used was very warm and quite lovely and happened to be that of fellow Shiatsu Practitioner, Ben Bartlein, of Eastern Shore.  There were 15 participants ranging from students to full-time practitioners.  We even had one student fill out the paperwork to become an AOBTA® member.

Deborah Valentine Smith has a wonderful way of incorporating real-life experiences into her teaching,

making it relevant for all participating. She discussed Five Element Theory, gave us handouts on the Jin Shin Do® points used for neck release and plenty of practice finding and working with these points.  We worked in sets of three, where two people would work on the recipient at the same time, giving each the opportunity to do the neck release twice and to receive once.  As an observer, I saw lots of concentration going on and good feedback happening between those receiving and those giving.  Working bilaterally with a partner is not usually how Jin Shin Do® is done and can be challenging when trying to find the points, but it turned out to be a very helpful way to work! The students were able to find the "perfect" location of each point as they checked in with one another, which is fundamental to Jin Shin Do®.  In this form of bodywork, the client truly is in charge, as interacting with the client is the norm in helping to facilitate body mind awareness.  As the client becomes aware of what they are feeling, subtle and major shifts tend to occur, which is what is so exciting and different about Jin Shin Do®!

And there WAS a good amount of excitement generated as the evening wrapped up, not only about the evening but also about the possibility of a basic Level One Jin Shin Do® workshop being taught here in the Minneapolis area next year.  Deborah stated she could come if 8 or more people committed to attending.  I think many of us will anxiously be awaiting her return!
