Bonita Kosciolek has just been approved as a Registered Instructor through the AOBTA®! This is an excellent landmark of the time, energy and progress that she has dedicated to her bodywork practice, continuing education, and the Shiatsu wisdom she mentors to her students. Next she will be expanding her teaching scope to include Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) theory and will accomplish her long term goal of becoming a certified AOBTA® instructor in the future.

Bonitaʼs Story

Since she was very young she remembers naturally wanting to help, touch and heal with people. Bonita pursued a successful career in advertising for 20 years when she realized her body was in pain, she was overworked, and had no energy to take care of herself and invest in her spiritual pursuits. It was obvious it was time for a change, so she took a leap of faith and a leave of absence from her high powered job to take care of herself and walk "the road less traveled". During this time she played with her daughter and took her to kindergarten.

She also invested time in Transcendental Meditation and yoga to rebuild her body and quiet her mind. One afternoon during her meditation a clear inner voice said "Do bodywork". That same afternoon she casually mentioned this to the mother of one of her daughters playmates who coincidentally had a pamphlet for the Minnesota Center for Shiatsu Study in her car. There was no question that she was on the right track and began the pursuit of her shiatsu destiny. After graduation she began her practice in an office space at 4161 Minnehaha Ave. Bonita was the only bodyworker in this neighborhood and called her practice Stone Pointe Shiatsu. Twelve years later she is still practicing in the same location. This same neighborhood has now become a mini epicenter of healing modalities, therapies and yoga.

She loves what Shiatsu has done for her. Now she can lead a healthier life, and feels empowered to direct her time and create her life in a more balanced way. Since she started teaching Shiatsu at Centerpoint 2-1/2 years ago Bonita has greatly expanded on her knowledge of the body, TCM, and Shiatsu as an art. She loves teaching the Shiatsu foundations class to fresh new minds and offers her 12 years of bodywork experience to the mat for her students. In her own words: "I love getting people right off the streets; they have no idea whatʼs about to happen to them. As they learn and go through this process, in a few short months they become amazing bodyworkers."
